Hockey Accessories
The small things in a hockey bag get forgotten until the night they are missing. A neck guard is required in Canadian minor hockey. A jock or jill with a protective cup is not optional at any age, and skate guards protect a fresh edge on the walk to the ice.
Tape is personal. Cloth tape on the blade for puck feel, clear tape for shin pads and socks, a knob of cloth tape at the top of the stick for grip.
Fit check
- The neck guard covers the throat and does not ride up into the chin.
- Visors attach to certified helmets only, and minor players need a full cage or shield.
- Skate guards for walking only. Store skates dry with soakers, not in hard guards.
- Air out the bag after every skate. Most gear smell is dried sweat that never got aired.
