Shin Pads

Measure from the centre of the kneecap to the top of the skate boot, with the skate on. That number in inches is the shin pad size. The knee should sit in the centre of the knee cup, and the bottom of the pad should rest on or just behind the skate tongue.

Too long and the pad jams into the skate and pushes the knee cup up; too short and the lower shin is exposed. Wrap the calf guard firmly, then tape or strap over the socks.

Fit check

  1. The knee sits in the centre of the knee cup.
  2. The bottom of the pad reaches the skate tongue, tucked under or over it by habit.
  3. The calf wrap closes around the leg without gaps.
  4. The top of the pad sits under the bottom of the pants.
