Junior tennis racquets are sized by length, from about 19 inches for the smallest players to 26 inches for twelve-year-olds; the child should be able to hold the racquet at their side without the head touching the ground.
Adult racquets differ in head size, weight and grip. A larger head is more forgiving for beginners, and the right grip size leaves about a finger's width between the fingertips and palm.
Fit check
- Junior: racquet tip just clears the ground when held at the side.
- Grip: one finger-width of space between fingertips and palm when holding it.
- Beginners: a larger, lighter head. Heavier racquets suit stronger, experienced players.
